COMPLETED COURSES & EVENTS
ITF Level 1 Course complete- Tehran (1- 12 May)
The ITF Coaching Beginner & Intermediate Tennis Players course hosted by I.R. Iran Tennis Federation was organized on May 1st-12th at the Enghelab Sport Complex in Tehran. The 12 day course conducted by ITF Tutor Amir Borghei was attended by 26 motivated coaches.
The three-day Play Tennis course familiarizing participants with ITF Play+Stay and Tennis 10s campaign was an interesting part for coaches. Working on Red-Orange-Green stages, many oncourt drills for starter players, conducting typical Tennis 10s lessons and organization of tournaments for groups of social players formed important parts of the program.
The main course also covered many topics on working with Beginner-Intermediate Players. The concept of Game Based Approach-GBA, tactical as well as mental oncourt drills, familiarization with organization of group and individual practice, lessons' progressions, developing young & adult beginner-intermediate players, etc. were among parts of the program.
An important highlight that added to technical value of the course and made it a more enjoyable experience for coaches was presentations make by the invited specialist speakers. Dr. Mehrshad Poorsaid (specialist in sport medicine) conducted the lecture room session on sport medicine and first aid for tennis.
Masoud Behnampour (specialist in physical training) conducted the lecture room & oncourt session on physical conditioning and drills for beginner-intermediate players. Radin Bashar (ITF white badge) conducted the lecture room session on rules & regulations as well as considerations that coaches need to be familiar with. All participants were invited to a lunch ceremony organized by Iran Tennis Federation and received the ITF Certificate of Attendance. Amir Borghei went through a summary of course and included: "During the ITF Tutors' Workshops in Spain (2009) and Philippines (2010) changes to the ITF Level 1 Coaches' Course were discussed and the importance of promoting the Play+Stay campaign as well as organizing the new Level 1 which contains modern concepts in coaching beginner-intermediate players were emphasized. The course in Iran was the first ITF Level 1 Coaches Course with New Syllabi conducted in West Asia region. Accordingly, I believe the program that was perfectly organized by the help of Iran Tennis Federation is a success for our region and I would like to thank my friends at the ITF Coaching Department for their cooperation."
Majid Shayesteh, President of I.R. Iran Tennis Federation also commented: "Coaches are an important part of tennis development and this is interesting to see young coaches as well as some of Iranian former junior champions and Davis Cup players as well as Fed Cup players participating in this course. We are keen to bring tennis to a high competitive level by 2016 and organizing educational programs for coaches is an important step to help reaching this goal."
