ITF JUNIOR BOYS CIRCUIT
Luca Santilli, ITF Manager, Junior Tennis
The ITF regrets to inform our member national associations that the ATP Player Council has rejected the ITF Proposal to initiate a feed up system for top junior boys into professional tournaments up to and including $50,000+H events. The proposal would have initiated a programme similar to the successful ones that have been in place at the Grand Slam tournaments and, for many years, at women’s tournaments up to and including $75,000 events. The ITF, whose member national associations continue to invest in the development of junior boys, will continue in its attempt to convince the ATP that a junior feed-up programme is greatly beneficial to the development of the top junior boys and their transition into the professional tour.
“We were very disappointed that the ATP Player Council did not recognise the difficulty facing many talented junior players, especially those from less developed tennis nations that do not have high level professional events, in making the transition from the top of the junior game into professional tennis, as well as the need to ensure that these talented players are not lost to the game” said Luca Santilli, ITF Manager, Junior Tennis.
“The ATP Player Council view in taking this decision was that most top juniors have enough opportunities to break through, but ITF research has shown that this is frequently not the case. We will continue in our efforts to convince the ATP Player Council that this programme has great benefits not only for the top juniors but also for the tournaments that would give exciting young players their first opportunities to play at professional level. We thank both the Grand Slams and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour for their support of this programme.”

RECENT COACHES COURSES
appris.
